This was my first pair of heavyweight selvedge jeans, purchased in late 2014. During the first three years, I wore them around 180–200 days a year. It became a big part of my daily life, but I wore them less frequently after that. Living in California, where the climate is generally dry, I never got the crazy fades you might see in South or Southeast Asia. Instead, my fades came from everyday routines. Working in an office and sitting for long hours, often with my legs crossed, created sharp, high-contrast creases around the thighs and along both sides of the waistband. I did my first light soak in the third year, then soaked or washed them roughly every two to three years after that. They may not be the most dramatic fades, but every crease tells a story of how I wore these jeans. More than a decade later, I still appreciate the character they’ve developed over time.
