The Art of Natural Fading PIGER 20MFSI | 1 YEAR | 3 WASHES Clean, sharp whiskers with deep indigo tones. Months 1–4: For the first four months, I wore these mostly in an office setting. I was sitting most of the time with minimal walking around. My office actually had a strict no-jeans policy, so I secretly layered them under my dress pants (crazy, right?). I had taken a break from raw denim because of work, but the urge to fade again was too strong. I saw someone mention doing the exact same thing to bypass their dress code, so I gave it a shot. Since the office was well-air-conditioned, layering didn't bother me at all. Months 5–6: I traveled to the US during the snowy season. At first, I worried that the cold weather and lack of sweat would slow down the fading process. However, wearing them daily, taking longer walks, and trekking through light snow actually made the wear marks pop much faster. Months 7–12: My routine shifted completely when I started working in a kitchen. Sitting was replaced by 8-hour shifts of standing, walking, and constantly squatting to grab ingredients. I always wore an apron to protect the jeans from spills. Whenever curry or sauce splattered, I quickly wiped it off with a damp cloth. Because the apron acted as a continuous barrier, my hands rarely rubbed against the thighs, which kept the front panel remarkably dark. Combined with the indigo warp yarns of this fabric, the color retains a rich, deep saturation. Eventually, I gave in and did the first wash at month 9—a soak followed by a machine spin cycle. I washed them again at month 11, and finally at month 12, which included a soak, spin, and tumble dry. While my fades might not be as sharp or stark white as those of other seasoned faders, and another 4 months of wear would certainly bring out more contrast, I am genuinely thrilled with this current tone—clean, balanced, and deep. I worry that continuing to wear them might wash out the overall depth of the indigo, so I’m calling it done here for this pair.
