In the 1960s, the U. S. military procurement headquarters in Japan chose to procure camouflage uniforms in Japan. This was because Japan possessed advanced printing technology, high-speed production capabilities, and offered cost advantages. The design was left to the discretion of factories throughout Japan, which led to the creation of countless variations of the tiger stripe pattern.
